THE PREMONITION

THE PREMONITION
I woke up early in the morning before the break of dawn. This was the day, Halloween! Also known as the day of the dead. I was going to prepare for this with my friend Jane. Jane and I had been planning a party for months. This was going to work by hook or crook.
I met Jane at the mall so that we could shop for Halloween decorations and snacks. While Jane was buying candy, I saw something flash by. I decided to follow it because I wanted to know what it was. I wish I would have remembered curiosity killed the cat.
The blurry thing looked like a mixture of a cat and a dog. I was intrigued by the thing and something told me to follow it. It led me to an old gypsy with gnarled fingers and a hunched back. She was facing away from me, so that I could only see her back. Then I asked her if she was lost. She turned and opened he eyes. What I saw next filled me with horror and sent a chill down my spine.
Her eyes were glowing an emerald green, which was complemented by the sparkling pearl necklace that she had adorned to complete her bizarre costume. Then slowly she stood up, turned around and put her gnarled, old, wrinkly hand on my shoulder. ‘Go away!’ she said in a hoarse voice that echoed in the deserted room, ‘The curse hasn’t been lifted,’ by now her voice had become louder and hoarser, ‘Break the curse or you die tonight!’
I was frozen with fear, my legs seemed to be glued to the floor and my heart was beating fast. Then all of a sudden something completely unnatural happened. I was becoming smaller and smaller at an alarmingly fast speed. When I looked in a mirror across the room I saw a bat with small beady eyes. When I looked down I saw a pair of black wings. I was a bat!
Suddenly small sparks hit the sides of my brain, out of the blue I now knew how to break the curse. I was in a state of shock because I knew I had to kill Jane! Was there any other way? Did I really have the guts to drive a silver stake into my best friend’s heart?
With my recently acquired bat abilities, I was able to find Jane in the blink of an eye. I couldn’t do it. I tried to tell her to run but all that came out of my mouth was a high-pitched squeak. I tried again. Then my heart skipped a beat. She saw me but was terrified. She ran out of the store and I looked at her until she was a tiny dot in the middle of the road.
Without a warning I was back in my body and the gypsy was there in front of me. She looked at me so darkly that I knew my fate was sealed. She then said ‘you didn’t break the curse!’ I felt a weird sensation spread throughout my body. When I looked down at myself I saw that I was fading away into thin air. ‘Help!’ I cried, but no one could save me then. I woke up my heart was beating fast, I was sweating profusely and panting for breath but in my bed. I have never been so happy to see my bed.
