Dear Editor,
I am about to turn 16 and I believe I should be allowed to
drive. I am very confident behind the wheel of a car under careful supervision
from my father but now I am finding it boring driving circles round a field
under his scrutiny.
I believe I am a
confident driver and my confidence can only grow if I have the freedom of
driving freely on the road. I believe every 16 year old thinks so. We could
take an opinion poll from all the teenagers in the whole country and I bet they
would all agree with me. I don’t believe that every 16 year old is careless on the road, we know the risks we
take and would avoid accidents at any cost.
We should all
undergo a strict driving test no matter what our age is before we are let free
to drive a vehicle. As long as we pass I don’t see why we should not be allowed
to drive. On certain occasions our parents are too busy to drop us anywhere
where we would want to go, so rather than disturb them I feel we should be
given the freedom to drive.
Road safety
charities worry about us but as long as we and our parents are confident about
our driving skills after we have passed our driving tests I don’t see why we
are being forbidden to drive at this age.
Thank you very
much for giving me a space in your newspaper.
