THIS IS MY STORY!

           THIS IS MY STORY!

It was a totally new experience to visit Kadesh Barnea, a foster home, on Saturday, 20 January. Each child has his/her own unique story and all their stories touched us deeply. I was delighted to see that they all live together as one small family, where they are connected to each other by their hearts, and not by blood.

There, I met the youngest member of this family who was only 28 days old then. His name is Asha Shujaah. This little champ has faced challenges right from the time he opened his eyes to this world. After his birth, his mother had strangled him and thrown him in a pit latrine, where the maggots had peeled off his skin and he had also ingested some waste. He was revived after five days and immediately taken to hospital because he was extremely weak and also dehydrated. He was kept there for a few days, but due to lack of proper attention over there as well, he was brought to this happy home. For the first few days, his adopter Mum kept him in a pouch, attached to her so that he could feel loved and form a bond with her. He's given antibiotics and is, therefore, now slowly recovering, though the merciless strangle has imprinted a deep scar around his neck.

I'm glad to see Asha recovering and I hope that he'll soon be completely fine and lead a normal life like other children as well as have a bright future ahead. Furthermore, at a very tender age, these children have learnt to accept and to conquer life's challenges with a smile. They don't know where their next meal will come from or how their expenses will be paid for, but still you see a glow on their faces and their eyes shine with hope. The most important thing is that they all live happily together as a family. It was really worthwhile to spend time with these small children and to know about them. I hope to see them again very soon.
