A COLD EXPERIENCE

A COLD EXPERIENCE
Lightening strikes in the distance, and all I could vaguely see were dense forests in the horizon. The loud, thud and bang of the lightening echoed in the isolated lane. The ancient lamp posts were the only source of light in the deserted pathway, half of which were either lacking bulbs or not functioning.
As I walked across the street, the only sounds which my ears could capture were my timid footsteps and water dripping from the drainage systems. All the shops, stalls and buildings were shut as if all the inhabitants had migrated. It seemed like everyone had disappeared except me. A strong, dry breeze hit me from the back, which was immediately detected by my body as a result caused goose bumps. I felt each and every strand of hair in my body stand in order to trap heat to make me feel warm. I stopped walking further and waited for the breeze to pass by as my body steadily returned back to its standard temperature.
I finally took a deep breath and resumed walking home in the cold lonely path. Suddenly, numerous large drops of water fell from above as if they were just released from a confined container. The heavy never ending rainfall soaked my clothes immensely. This sent chills down my spine which made me shiver involuntarily. I scanned my surroundings hurriedly in search of a secured, warm place to go to until the rains stop. The most convenient option available was an extended roof of what seemed like a confectionery shop and was held in place my two rods on either side.

As I stood under the roof, I stared at the splashes of the rain drops on the concrete aisle and thought about when the rain would stop and how I would ultimately reach home and feel warm, comfortable, safe and peaceful.
