TO PLAY OR NOT TO PLAY
Most
teenagers seek great amusement in playing video games, however this habit is
causing rising concern amongst their parents. A majority of teenagers spending
large portions of their time immersed into the virtual world of video games, where
they fight villains and go on exciting missions. But when should we draw the
line between innocent, fun and an alarming addiction?
Parent
s believe that video games introduce teenagers to a world of violence, gore and
explosions; a place completely unsuitable for them. Moreover the lack of
physical activity and exercise amongst teenagers is also an issue for concern.
Research has proven that the percentage of obese teenagers has risen at an
alarming rate in the past decade. Video games discourage teenagers in
participating in sports.
Teenagers
have become aloof and unsociable as a result of
over indulgence in video games. They spend virtually all their time in this
virtual endeavor. Parents often complain
that children would rather spend their time with their ‘digital friends’ rather
than have a conversation with them.
However
from a teenager point of view, video games are not the horrible monsters
parents deem them to be . They are rather, an important part of growing up in today’s
digital world. They believe that by playing Video games they will acquire the
necessary computer skills much needed in securing job. They also believe that
the skills will improve teenagers in tack, leadership, problem solving skills
and critical thinking.
Further,
video games create a platform whereby teenagers from across the globe can
communicate with each other. In the world of video games, there is a place for
everyone. Interactive games may actually help bring the family together.
In
my view, video games, like everything else can be either good or bad depending
on how one uses it. So as a teenager, take care!!!!!
